Environment: New Solar Cells Set Record in...
Solar cells just got a boost in efficiency thanks to a couple of scientists at the University of Delaware. The news cells can convert 42.8% of the light that strikes them into electricity, which is a step up from the previous record of 40.7%. The cells do this by splitting light into high energy, low energy, and medium energy chunks. The light is then directed to different materials depending on...

Is this the new iMac keyboard?
Filed under: Peripherals See that? That’s the rumored, “super slim,” brushed aluminum keyboard said to be accompanying Apple’s new iMac computer. It certainly appears to share the key design of the MacBook like we heard but seeing “Photoshop” in the exif data doesn’t give us a high degree of confidence here. Regardless, a forum jockey over at the Rhapsody...
The Telephone EXchange Name Project →
Telephone numbers used to begin with two letters, which were an abbreviation for a word. For example, there was a Glenn Miller song called PEnnsylvania 6-5000, and Liz Taylor made a movie called BUtterfield-8. I’m just barely old enough to remember that m

Apple sold 270,000 iPhones in the first 30 hours
Filed under: CellphonesAccording to Apple’s Q3 financial results call, Apple sold 270,000 iPhones during the first 30 hours of sales — the quarter ended on June 30th. Apple admitted to and apologized for activation problems, which would account for that 146,000 activations figure that AT&T released yesterday. As for sales past June 30th, Apple isn’t saying much, but they do...
Interview with Woz
USA Today posted tiny snippets of an interview with Steve Wozniak, shown above playing Segway Polo. Apparently, the iPhone was the theme of the brief interview. The view from the clouds is that Woz loves the iPhone, but he’s still using his RAZR for voice, though he vastly prefers the iPhone to other smartphones. He’s got a wish list of things he wants to see in the iPhone, and...
